Rising prices of onions are mainly due to hoarding by the middle men which need to be dealt with sternly to have control on the abnormal hike in onion prices . The poor farmers are not getting the returns for their produce and these middle men take advantage of their innocence . If the government procure the total produce of the farmers and regulate the distribution it will resolve the woes of farmers and the consumers in addition to employment opportunities for the youths from the villages . Just 5% fall in produce of onions can not lead to such devastating prices . It is all due to hoarding . The other two vegetables which need to be regulated are tomatoes and potatoes .
